New Initiative to Tackle Everyday City Problems

By Y.M. Lowy
Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch have announced a new initiative called the Quality of Life Division to address issues like noise, illegal parking and loitering to make neighborhoods safer and build stronger trust between the police and the community.
The program will bring together officers from different NYPD divisions to focus on these everyday problems. Using a system called Q-Stat, the Quality of Life Division will track complaints and help officers respond more quickly to issues such as noisy neighbors and illegal parking.
The initiative won’t cost additional money, as the NYPD is reassigning officers and using existing resources. Officers will also receive extra training to better handle these specific issues.
