New Guidelines for Outdoor Dining in NYC

Outdoor dining is making a comeback this spring with some changes. Starting April 1, NYC restaurants can set up their sidewalk dining areas, but they must adhere to new guidelines under the Dining Out NYC program.
This year, outdoor setups must remain open on all sides, although they are allowed to have overhead coverings. Additionally, instead of sand, water-filled barriers will be used to ensure cleanliness and prevent bugs.
The Dining Out NYC program will run from April 1 to November 29, and restaurants need to apply in advance to secure their spots. Restaurants could face fines of up to $1,000 if their structures are not cleared by the end of the season.
With nearly 4,000 applications received this year, the Dining Out NYC program is more popular than ever.
