New All-Way Stop Sign Installed at Dangerous 49th St. & Old New Utrecht Intersection

By BoroPark24 Staff

After multiple accidents and ongoing concerns from residents, the DOT has finally installed an all-way stop sign at the intersection of 49th Street and Old New Utrecht Road, addressing what had long been a hazardous crossing.

Until now, only vehicles coming from Old New Utrecht were required to stop, while those traveling from 18th Avenue toward 17th Avenue could continue through, creating a dangerous situation for both drivers and pedestrians. This lack of proper traffic control led to frequent near-misses and several crashes, making it one of the more hazardous spots in the area.

With the new all-way stop sign in place, the intersection is expected to be significantly safer, ensuring that all approaching vehicles must come to a complete stop before proceeding. Residents and local drivers hope this long-overdue change will help prevent future accidents.
