National Guard Sticking Around on The Subway for the Summer

Back in March, Governor Hochul deployed the National Guard to assist the NYPD on the transit system after an uptick in crime on the subways.
Many city agencies, including the NYPD, bashed the announcement, saying that the problem isn't in the transit system, the subways aren't a "war zone" but rather the bail reform is the cause of these crime actions, as reported by BoroPark24 here.
That has so far cost New York State roughly $2.7 million dollars, around $1 million a month, and it won’t be stopping anytime soon. Hochul recently announced that even though there has been a significant drop in subway crimes, the National Guard will be sticking around until at least after the summer, which will cost NY a total of around $17 million.
“I know that, statistically, crimes trend upward in the summer months,” Hochul told reporters on Tuesday. “And so it's probably not the time to say we're done.”
