Multiple Traffic Lights Malfunction in Boro Park

Multiple Traffic Lights Malfunction in Boro Park

by M.C. Millman

After over 700 days without snow, Boro Park has benefitted from having less salt on the road, a benefit that expired this month when Boro Park saw snow for the first time in nearly two years on Monday, January 15.

Since then 15, Boro Park has seen an inordinate increase in traffic lights malfunctioning. Locations include 11th Avenue and 59th Street; 15th Avenue and 51st Street;  12 Avenue and 43 Street;  52nd Street and New Utrecht Avenue12th Avenue and 60th Street; and 16th Avenue and 48th Street.

Additionally, as the salt seeps into the cracks in the road, corroding the wires buried underneath, electric fires result in the smoke billowing from manholes, attesting to the burning wires sizzling below ground. These smokey fires have been reported at 13th Avenue and 55th Street; 9th Avenue  and 40th Street; 37th Avenue and New Utrecht Avenue; 39th Street, and Fort Hamilton Way.
