MTA Collects Over $100 Million Since Congestion Toll Launch

You know the smiling emoji with the dollar signs for eyes? Yea, that’s the MTA right now.
In new data published on Monday, it was reported that the MTA has already collected over $100 million from the congestion toll since it launched in January. They did also report, however, that the MTA spent $23 million during the same time period to run the tolls. Still, that’s a profit of $77 million, which isn’t too shabby.
“We have created a novel new revenue stream that is 100% dedicated to the capital improvements necessary for this region, and bit by bit we are meeting our commitments," MTA board member Neal Zuckerman said during a committee meeting after the new figures were published.
The report comes while the toll still stands on shaky legs, as U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy instructed the toll to be shut down. Duffy originally gave the MTA until March 21st to shut down the toll but issued a 30-day extension last week.
