MTA Bus Fare and Front-Door Service Returns Monday

After months of back door boarding, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority is finally resuming with front-door service Monday, August 31. 

Since March, the entire front section of every MTA bus in NYC was closed off to protect the safety of the driver. Buses were running free of charge and ridership plummeted pushing the company into a deep financial deficit. 

Sarah Feinberg, interim president of the New York City Transit Authority, said the MTA lost about $159 million over the past few months. 

The return of front-door access allows for a 40 percent larger rider capacity, providing more opportunity to social distance.
