Governor Hochul announced today that during the traffic enforcement on Memorial Day weekend, state police issued 10,949 tickets and made 225 arrests for DWIs. Police utilized sobriety checkpoints, additional patrol units, and ticketed drivers using their phones in an effort to keep the streets safe during the busy weekend.
Police issued a total of 3,076 tickers for speeding, 356 for distracted driving, and 1,663 for seatbelt violations, and that’s just some of it. Lower Hudson Valley got 1,030 of the total tickets, while NYC got 579.
“New York State has zero tolerance for drunk and impaired driving, and we are doing everything in our power to prevent the senseless tragedies that result from it,” Governor Hochul said. “Public safety is my number one priority, and we will continue to aggressively enforce our driving laws so that New Yorkers are protected.”
