Mayoral Candidate Eric Adams Joins UJO, Met Council in Distributing Pesach Food to Thousands

Before bumping wrists in solidarity, this morning at the Passover Food Drive hosted by the United Jewish Organizations (UJO) of Williamsburg and the MetCoucil, Rabbi David Niederman and Brooklyn’s Borough President Eric Adams exchanged heartfelt words of thanks at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, where more than 100 volunteers came out from 11am to 3pm to distribute essential Pesach food to thousands of Brooklyn families, who had registered in advance.

After helping to load the many cars who lined up for the endless boxes of potatoes, onions, carrots, eggs, grape juice, frozen beef and chicken, and other essentials, Adams, who is running for mayor of New York City, thanked Rabbi Niederman, the UJO’s executive director, “for all the people he helps every day, and asked that, ”G-d continues to bless you.”

“You too,” Rabbi Niederman responded to Adams before calling him an “Ohaiv Yisroel.” “And G-d will help you to help even more people,” showing faith in Adams mayoral run.

City Councilmen Steve Levine, Kalman Yeger, Robert Cornegy, Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein, and New York Attorney General Letitia James also joined in the tremendous efforts to distribute so much food to so many Brooklyners.

Shomrim coordinators Jacob Itzkowitz and Asher Markowitz, organized the scores of volunteers “to implement the distribution of the boxes,” one volunteer told BoroPark24.

Amplifying the good feelings of chesed and solidarity this morning, was a celebration and dedication of a van that will serve as Williamsburg Shomrim’s new state-of-the-art command center, the many elected officials who lent a hand today took the time to admire.

“Eric Adams [,who was a police officer for 20 years] went into Shomrim’s new command center, and he was amazed at its features and the beautiful work that Shomrim does,” reported one volunteer, who added that Rabbi Niederman called Adams "his longtime ally in the Jewish community."

A longtime supporter of Shomrim, Adams, notably bought five bullet-proof vests and raised money for more for the Boro Park Shomrim after four of its members were shot in the line of duty in September 2010.

“After Adams thanked all of his Jewish friends, Rabbi Niederman said that he looked forward to when Adams could help even more people on a bigger platform.”
