Mayoral Candidate Andrew Yang Receives Endorsements of Councilman Yeger and Assemblyman Eichenstein

By Yehudit Garmaise

City Councilman Kalman Yeger and Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein endorsed mayoral candidate Andrew Yang this morning at a press conference that took place in front on Eichler’s in Midwood.

“It is such a privilege to be here today and accept this endorsement,” said Yang before he acknowledged “the heavy hearts so many people in New York feel right now after the [45] deaths at the festival at Mt. Meron in Israel, and hundreds of people were injured as well.

“One of the lives that was lost was a 21-year-old man who had just been engaged, and had his entire life in front of him. And the pain that so many in this community and so many in New York City feel, we are with you. We understand. It is heartbreaking that people who have so much in front of them had their lives lost in such a tragic way.”

Speaking about anti-Semitic violence, Yang said that “as mayor, I will do everything in my power to bring the city together to reduce these hate crimes.”

In terms of the resources of the city and law enforcement agencies that are being allocated to protect New Yorkers, “There are a lot of things we can do better.”

Among the things Yang said that he could do better to help New Yorkers to feel safer and more secure as they walk the streets is to reduce homelessness and to redouble resources for mental illness, “which in many cases overlap with the violence and hate crimes that we are seeing,” Yang said.

Saying that he was “just thrilled to have partners like Simcha and Kalman,” Yang also had a message directly for the neighborhood.

“To the Orthodox Jewish community, I have learned so much from you. I have enjoyed every moment I have spent in your community.

“I think Kalman gave me one of the highest compliments that I have received on this campaign so far, which is that I brought wisdom,” Yang said with laugh, “but I say: I have received wisdom from my time spent in the Orthodox Jewish community.

“You all are role models in many, many ways. We should be not just respecting you and your priorities for your community, but I think there is a lot to learn, honestly.

“I think the standards should be a little bit different than what you are all describing, which is that you all want to be treated fairly.

“So I am thrilled to be accepting this endorsement, and I will be even more excited to work on behalf of you and every New Yorker to try to improve our way of life, and give our city the future it deserves and has been missing for too long.”
