Mayor Adams Plans to Run for Mayor as an Independent

Mayor Eric Adams will not run in the Democratic primary for New York City mayor. Instead, he plans to run as an independent in November.
The deadline to qualify for the Democratic primary has passed today. Adams had put his campaign on hold due to federal charges against him. On Wednesday, a judge dismissed the case with prejudice, meaning it will not go to trial. With the deadline just a day later, Adams said there was not enough time to restart his campaign as a Democrat.
Although Adams had collected over 25,000 signatures to qualify for the primary, he will instead submit 3,750 signatures by May 27 to appear on the November ballot as an independent.
