This morning—in light of the situation in Eretz Yisroel—Mayor Eric Adams brought together stakeholders from throughout the community to discuss his plans for securing the community during this trying time.
The mayor explained that, effective immediately, the NYPD will be deployed throughout the community. “We want to make sure that our yeshivos and our private schools are safe. We are doing that by combining our efforts with the administrators in this room whom we have known for a long time and with the top brass in the NY police dept,” the mayor said.
A high-ranking NYPD official told the community leaders that if they do not see a police presence at their shul over the weekend—or receive a visit from the police at some point— they should place a call to his personal cellphone to alert him about it. “All departments within the NYPD are on high alert, and deploying a large number of resources to ensuring the safety of the community throughout New York City. It is not about today or tomorrow; it’s about the coming months.” he said.
The NYPD officials reiterated that although there is no known imminent threat to the community, they are on high alert, and are asking the entire community to be on high alert as well. “As we always say: ‘if you see something, say something,’” they said.
The community can expect to see a large presence of law enforcement, including with large weapons. This does not mean that there is an imminent threat or danger to the community, but rather it is a deterrent to anyone contemplating doing harm, R”l.
Following these remarks, the NYPD officials took questions from a number of administrator and community leaders on security-related matters relating to the communities they represent.
