Man Arrested for Painting Giant Graffiti on Grand Army Plaza Arch
Brooklyn – A man who stole a crane Sunday afternoon and used it to climb up the arch at the Grand Army Plaza and spray it up with meaningless words was arrested.
The 36-year-old man took a cherry picker standing nearby and painted the words “Bird G-d” onto the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch at approximately 12:30 p.m.
The meaning of the words is unclear, though an NYPD official said she hoped it didn’t have any anti-Semitic meaning in light of a recent wave of attacks on Jews.
The man was arrested after he got stuck on the crane and had to be rescued by police.
The incident occurred hour before a Chanuka menorah lighting ceremony at the plaza.
