Major Redesign Project Approved For Shore Road Promenade

By Idy Perl
The NYC Parks Department will soon be starting a new project to overhaul the Bay Ridge, or Shore Road, Promenade. Located right outside Boro Park and a famous family destination for Boro Park families and schools.
The $20.97 million project, called “Destination: Greenways!” was already approved by the City Council.
The promenade will be redesigned with more lighting and additional greenery between the bike and pedestrian lanes, in some places extending up to 30 feet. The new lawns will make space for picnics and give children space to run around, and trees will be planted to provide shade. In areas with an overpass, more seating, game tables, bike racks, drinking fountains, and even workout equipment will be installed. The promenade’s Fourth Ave entrance will be updated with new ADA-compliant ramps, as well as a sloped lawn and a new overlook point.
In addition, the Leif Ericson Park, which is at the northern end of the promenade, has also been approved for a $9 million overhaul. Following residents’ complaints, the city will repave the entire greenway path, add new signage and lights, and improve the crosswalks.
