Maimonides Updates Visitor Policy Effective March 15 to Further Protect Patients and Staff

In light of the growing pandemic and rapid spread of the coronavirus across New York City, Maimonides Medical Center is updating its visitor policy effective March 15, in order to ensure the safety of its patients and staff.

The Hospital says these policy changes are necessary and reflect the great care the hospital provides to its patients and to protect them from contracting the COVID-19 disease, commonly referred to as coronavirus.

As previously stated, Maimonides won’t allow any visitor who has had fever, cough, trouble breathing, rash, vomiting, or diarrhea within the past 14 days.

It also won’t allow any visitors to patients who are being treated or are suspected of having coronavirus.

Children under the age of 13 will not be allowed to visit any patient until further notice.

While regular visiting hours for adult and pediatric care unites remain the same — 9am to 9pm, the hospital will limit visitors to one visitor per adult patient and two visitors per pediatric patients, limited to parents or guardians.

Pediatric patients with suspected/confirmed COVID-19 are allowed parents or guardians at the bedside but the person visiting will be assessed for symptoms. If they are showing symptoms as well, they should not visit. If asymptomatic, they will be instructed to perform hand hygiene often and wear a surgical mask while in the room.

The following changes have also been implemented across other units:

Labor and Delivery:

Regular visiting hours are between 9AM and 9PM. A partner is allowed at the bedside at all times. 1 person maximum is permitted on the premises for each patient (the partner counts as the one).

Mother-Baby Units:

Regular visiting hours are between 9AM and 9PM. 1 person maximum permitted on the premises for each patient.

Emergency Department:

Adult areas: Visitors are not permitted.
Pediatric area: 2 persons maximum—limited to parents or guardians.

Perioperative Units:

Adult patients: 1 person maximum on the premises for each patient, and at the bedside only when circumstances permit. Pediatric patients: 2 persons maximum—limited to parents or guardians.

Ambulatory And Outpatient Areas
Ambulatory and outpatients may be accompanied by one visitor per patient. Exceptions may be made for a patient aide in addition to a family member, only when necessary.

Any visitor who is coughing or showing signs of illness will be asked to leave.

Pediatric patients may be accompanied by 2 persons maximum—limited to parent, guardian or healthy siblings.
