Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks to Return to the East River and Coney Island Boardwalk
Mayor Bill de Blasio announced today that the sparkling sounds and colorful excitement of the celebratory Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks show will return to celebrate Independence Day in less than one month.
The show kicks off on Sunday, July 4, just before 9:30 pm, when more than 65,000 shells and effects from fie barges will be positioned on the East River and centered along with Midtown Manhattan.
Coney Island's more conveniently-located annual fireworks show also will return this year at 10pm, when they can be viewed from the Coney Island Boardwalk.
The mayor’s announcements about this summer’s fireworks shows are welcome news after last year’s fireworks shows were reduced to a series of small displays around the city and were viewable online after they were pre-recorded.
Macy’s described the comeback show as a “jaw-dropping pyrotechnic salute to American bravery and optimism in an incomparable barrage of color, light, shape, and sound.”
Will Cross, the executive producer of the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, said it will be an “epic celebration that will inspire a renewed sense of hope and optimism among our fellow New Yorkers and viewers nationwide.”
“New Yorkers have worked hard to fight back COVID-19 and build a recovery for all of us,” said the mayor. “This summer, we can’t wait to reconnect with the iconic events that make our city great.
