by Mindy Cohen

Erev Shabbos thunderstorms brought a bought of lightning that struck a temporary structure in Camp Sternberg, injuring six campers and one staff member.

Catskills Hatzalah brought the girls to a local hospital for treatment and observation. All seven were released after being evaluated and pronounced to be in good condition.

The camp released the following letter to parents to inform and assure them after the incident.

Dear Parents,

Last night Camp Sternberg and the area around us experienced a severe weather event. In the course of the storm, a  few campers and a staff member in Older Pioneers were shocked by lightning strikes in the area.

Out of an abundance of caution, the girls (whose parents were all notified) were taken to the hospital. Baruch Hashem, they were all discharged and back in camp within a few hours. Our mental health professionals are on hand helping our campers and staff to process what transpired.

We are so grateful to Hashem for keeping us all safe and look forward to a continued healthy and fun summer.
