Lawsuit Against MTA Over Dangerous Gaps Between Trains and Platforms

By Idy Perl
A lawsuit brought against the MTA back in 2022 will be coming back to court this October.
The lawsuit, which was brought by accessibility advocates, accuses the MTA of violating the Human Rights Act due to the dangerous empty spaces between trains and the platforms, which pose a risk for the handicapped and elderly.
Two years ago the MTA made an agreement, due to a separate lawsuit, to make 95% of subway stations accessible. Earlier this summer they announced that although only 31% of platforms have been updated so far, all accessibility projects are on hold indefinitely due to Governor Hochul cancelling the congestion toll.
