Law Expands Loading Zones by 500 Spaces Around City

by YS Gold

Many locals have seen added Loading Zones in and around Boro Park in the last week.

Local Law 168, also known as the Loading Zone Expansion bill, was passed in 2021, As its name suggests, it calls for a massive expansion in loading zones around the city by the Department of Transportation.

The expansion is taking place in the years of  2022 through 2024.

According to a DOT spokesperson, " these are neighborhood loading zones intended to facilitate local deliveries by creating dedicated curb space, and they are intended to improve safety and reduce congestion by reducing double parking.

Some residents complained that this would further reduce number of parking spaces around the neighborhood, which is already lacking parking space.

Will the relief of giving delivery trucks place to load remove congestion and offset this inconvenience? That remains to be seen.
