Just as Trump Predicted, Biden Proposes 4-6 Week Lockdowns for the Country

Back in September, during the first presidential debate, President Donald Trump said that Joe Biden, “wants to shut down the country."

Trump said that "more people would be hurt" than saved by a lockdown because of businesses being closed. "Those states [that are shut down] are not doing well."

Just last month, at a town hall in Philadelphia, Biden said, "I don't think there's a need to lock down...I laid out a plan [on] how you can open businesses. You can open businesses and schools if in fact you provide them the guidance they need as well as the money to be able to do it.

Monday morning in his first coronavirus briefing, however, President-elect Biden announced his COVID-19 strategy, which is “to do everything possible to get COVID-19 under control" in what he describes as "the worst wave yet in this pandemic."

“Shutting down businesses and paying people for lost wages for four to six weeks could help keep the coronavirus pandemic in check and get the economy on track until a vaccine is approved and distributed, said Michael T. Osterholm, Ph.D., MPH, who is Biden’s coronavirus adviser.

"We'll follow the science. Let me say that again, we'll follow the science. And we'll adjust to new data when it comes in," Biden said Monday, noting "the challenge before we is still immense and growing...there's a need for bold action to fight this pandemic.”

Dr Osterholm explained that a nationwide lockdown would lower the COVID positivity rates and hospitalizations, while the world awaits a vaccine.

“We could pay for a package right now to cover all of the wages, lost wages for individual workers for losses to small companies to medium-sized companies or city, state, county governments. We could do all of that,” said Dr. Osterholm, who is the director of the Center of Infectious Disease Research and Policy at the University of Minnesota. “If we did that, then, we could lockdown for four to six weeks.”

During a campaign rally in Georgia, just two days before the election, President Donald Trump anticipated Biden’s willingness to declare more coronavirus lockdowns.

“Joe Biden is promising to delay the vaccine and turn America into a prison state,” President Trump said. “A vote for Biden is a vote for lockdowns, layoffs, and misery.”

Trump again accused Biden of hypocrisy for allowing leftist mobs to loot and burn and riot in some of America’s major cities, claiming it only made the pandemic worse.

“They closed your churches, they closed your schools, but if you want to riot and burn down the stores and have the anarchists out there, that’s okay,” Trump said. “But you can’t go to school, you can’t go to church. It’s crazy.”
