Independence Day Causes Postponement in Trash and Compost Collections for One Day

By Yehudit Garmaise

In honor of Independence Day, the city’s Department of Sanitation (DSNY) will not be collecting trash, recycling, and compost on Tuesday, July 4.

New Yorkers whose trash and compost are usually collected on Tuesday should wait until Tuesday night to place unwanted materials at the curb.

While the DSNY will resume trash collections on Wednesday, July 5, residents may experience some delays, as often happens after holidays, the DSNY said.

“We appreciate patience as we work to collect the backlog of materials,” the DSNY announced.

Recycling pick-ups will be skipped on July 4 completely. Residents whose materials that can be recycled are usually collected on Tuesdays should wait to place their recycling at the curbside until the night of Monday, July 10.
