In the Works - Migrant Tent Shelters in Public Parks

by Mindy Cohn
Public parks, New York City residents' oases in the midst of the City's hustle and bustle, are about to be jeopardized.
First reported by Gothamist yesterday is the news that the City is seriously considering setting up a migrant tent shelter in large local parks.
This new development results from a lack of space in existing City shelters which has left illegal immigrants sleeping on streets and buses outside the City's filled-to-capacity illegal immigrant welcome center at the Roosevelt Hotel in Midtown.
After Mayor Adam's attempt to utilize school gyms for housing illegals -while school was still in session and then attempting to ship off busloads of illegals to the suburbs, and following the failure after only a month of the large-scale tent shelter constructed on Randalls Island last year, this new effort should come as no surprise to beleaguered City residents.
City representatives claim to have a list of 3,000 potential sites under consideration as potential locations to utilize as shelters for the unabated influx of illegals which New York City is funding out of taxpayers' pockets.
City Hall reports that more than 95,600 migrants have come through the City shelter system's intake process since last spring. One hundred seven thousand nine hundred people are housed in City shelters. Fifty-six thousand two hundred of those in the shelters are illegal immigrants.
