In a Surprise Announcement, Sanzer Rebbe Appoints Son as Rov of American Chassidim

In recent years the Sanzer chassidus in America has been
growing and expanding, with a multiple shtieblach, and a yeshiva opened in Boro
Park. The Sanzer Rebbe is the son of the previous Sanz-Klausenberger Rebbe, zt”l.
This evening, at the wedding of the granddaughter—a daughter
to his son Rav Yosef Moshe Dov Halberstam—the Rebbe spoke at the kabbolas
ponim, when he surprised the chassidim in attendance.
“It is known that our holy ancestors descend from Shomayim
for the simchos of their descendants... but they are surely disappointed
in me,” the Rebbe said humbly. “However, they are surely proud of my son who is
the rov of all the chassidim in the United States.”
And with that the appointment was sealed.
Rav Yosef Moshe Dov, the second son of the Rebbe, is highly
respected within the chassidus, and is known as a talmid chochom. He has come
to America on a number of occasions to strengthen the chassidim here, and he
will making his way here more often, possibly moving to America eventually,
providing leadership, guidance, and community to the Sanzer chassidim on these
shores.
