If It’s Too Good to Be True, It Probably Is Not

New York City officials are warning residents about the latest scam aimed at NYC residents.
Many residents have received a text saying that they have an unpaid traffic ticket, and to avoid a $25 fine they can follow a link to settle the ticket for a laughable $2.50. As the saying goes, if it’s too good to be true, it probably is.
The link included in the text looks similar to the official city website NYC City Pay, where payments for various city services can be made.
“Many of us say it could never happen to me,” Mayor Eric Adams said Tuesday during his press conference at City Hall. “You'd be surprised how we are looped into these various requests for our personal information.”
