Iconic Cyclone Roller Coaster Reopens After Safety Violations

By Idy Perl

The iconic Cyclone roller coaster in Coney Island is running once again!

A few weeks ago BoroPark24 reported on the August 22 incident at Coney Island when the Cyclone malfunctioned during a ride and the passengers had to be helped off the rickety roller coaster track. The DOB then issued several safety violations and fined the park for not keeping up with maintenance, and the ride was closed while repairs were made.

Over the weekend, park officials announced that the Cyclone has reopened and is running once again after repairs were made and it passed a safety inspection Saturday morning.

“We are incredibly honored to preserve the legacy of the Coney Island Cyclone roller coaster and offer memorable experiences on this historic coaster, year after year,” Alessandro Zamperla, president and CEO of Central Amusement International said. “This American icon has captivated guests for nearly a century, and our dedicated team and attraction engineers continue to ensure that this legendary 97-year-old landmark continues to operate safely and smoothly.”
