Hundreds of Trees in Boro Park Scheduled to be Pruned in Coming Year

Readers may have noticed parks department crews pruning trees around the neighborhood. This is part of a city-wide effort to maintain the trees in public spaces—an endeavor that will see more than 60,000 trees pruned around the City’s five boroughs.
The City has released an exact list with addresses of every one of the 60,739 trees it intends to prune over the coming months. Reasons for pruning have to do with dead or damaged tree limbs, broken or hanging limbs, limbs that obscure traffic signs or lights, and limbs and branches that obstruct the sidewalk or street.
Boro Park residents can expect to see tree work on many streets in the coming months, which also means closed streets and avenues, and are advised to avoid those areas to avoid traffic buildup in the neighborhood.
The City will not remove limbs and branches that became tangled in electrical wires due to safety concerns. The utility company must be contacted for this as they have been permitted by the Parks Department to handle such cases.
