How Many More Accidents Need to Happen at 61st & 21st Before Action Is Taken?

By BoroPark24 Staff
Just two days after BoroPark24 reported on yet another accident at the dangerous intersection of 61st Street and 21st Avenue - following repeated calls for a traffic light or at least an all-way stop - another crash has occurred. This time, one person was transported to the hospital in stable condition.
How many more people need to be hurt before someone finally does something?
Despite our previous report outlining a clear pattern of accidents - ranging from minor fender benders to more serious collisions that required hospital visits - there has yet to be a visible response or action. Even a temporary measure has not been introduced to help calm the intersection.
Videos sent to our newsroom show the chaos at this corner: cars blowing through stop signs, near-misses with pedestrians, and crash after crash. It's not just frustrating—it's dangerous.
Other intersections in Boro Park with similar safety concerns—like 16th & 63rd, 19th & 53rd, and 18th & 54th—have already gotten traffic lights. Why is this intersection being ignored?
BoroPark24 is once again calling on our elected officials and the DOT: install a traffic light at 61st Street and 21st Avenue before another person gets seriously injured - or worse.
