Hatzalah Members to Face Congestion Pricing Fees Starting January 5th

By BoroPark24 Staff

Starting at midnight on Sunday, January 5th, members of Chevra Hatzalah who drive into the congestion pricing zone in Manhattan will be charged a toll ranging between $2.25 and $9, depending on the time of day.

According to a letter issued by Hatzalah CEO Yehiel M. Kalish, these fees will apply even if members are responding to emergency calls within the zone.

While Hatzalah ambulances remain exempt from the toll, members using private vehicles for emergency response are currently not granted exemptions. The letter emphasized that Hatzalah has been working closely with the Governor, the Department of Health (DOH), and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to secure exemptions for its members. However, as of now, exemptions haven't been  finalized.

“If you have not been notified by our office, it is safe to assume that you will be charged the appropriate toll if you enter the congestion pricing zone for any reason - even to answer a call,” the letter stated.

This policy marks a significant development for first responders who rely on private vehicles for urgent calls.

Hatzalah has urged its members to stay informed for further details.
