Hatzalah Air Buys Four Air Ambulances that Take Flight

By Yehudit Garmaise

Hatzolah Air is the very first customer to buy four new vertical takeoff and landing (VOTL) CityHawk “air ambulances” from Urban Aeronautics Ltd., the Israeli aerospace company just announced.

Representatives of Hatzolah Air, which operates fix-wing aircrafts for Hatzalah’s urgent missions, said that they are excited to pioneer the VTOL alternative to “ground-based ambulances” that are often slowed down in densely populated urban settings.

The hydrogen-powered, lightweight VOTL air ambulances have twin engines and bypass traffic and other congestion by using jet propulsion to take flight to transport patients to hospitals more quickly and safely.

Each of the futuristic air-ambulances, which are quieter and whose cabins are 20% to 30% larger than traditional helicopters, accommodate a pilot, a patient plus a companion, two emergency medical service (EMS) workers, and extensive life support equipment.

In addition, to using the CityHawks to administer their own emergency services, the Jewish volunteer EMS organization will continue to partner with Urban Aeronautics to help the company to further develop, produce, market, sell, and distribute the CityHawk aircraft to EMS organizations worldwide.

“Hatzalah’s pre-order of four air ambulance CityHawks is an amazing show of confidence in our program and in our company,” said Nimrod Golan-Yanay, the CEO of Urban Aeronautics. “We look forward to delivering on our promise to revolutionize urban air mobility and the emergency response capabilities of major cities across the world.”

Eli Rowe, the president of Hatzalah Air, also is excited about the new partnership.

“We are excited to be become not just the worldwide distributor of Urban Aeronautics Air Ambulance CityHawk, but its first customer as well,” Rowe said. “Hatzalah’s mission is always about patient care, and adding the VTOL CityHawk has the potential to save many thousands of lives every year.”
