Hackers Reportedly Paid Employee for Help

Hackers paid a Twitter insider to help gain access to several high-profile accounts.

The Twitter insider worked with hackers to take over the accounts of Elon Musk, Barack Obama, Joe Biden and others.

“we used a rep that literally done all the work for us,” one of the hackers told the tech news site published by Vice News.

According to a screenshot published by Motherboard, a Twitter tool was used to show various details about the identity and status of many accounts, such as whether the email address was confirmed and whether the account has been suspended.

Twitter is still investigating whether its employee allowed hackers to access the tool or used it to take over the accounts themselves. They acknowledged that “hackers successfully targeted some of our employees with access to internal systems and tools and used that to access and take control of accounts owned by Apple, Uber, Kanye west and others.”

They say they are looking to see if the hackers caused other internal damage or if they obtained access to any more information.

After the hack, Twitter shares dropped by 5.1 percent in premarket trading Thursday to $33.83 as of 7:19 a.m.
