Yesterday, Boro Park residents once again saw green infrastructure construction at 14th Avenue and 55th Street, following similar projects that took place throughout the area this past summer.
The NYC Environmental Protection Agency is leading the initiative to install Green Infrastructure across the city, designed to collect stormwater before it enters the sewer system. These improvements help prevent flooding and contribute to the health of local waterways.
As previously reported on BoroPark24, of the upgrades introduced is porous pavement, a special type of pavement that allows water to seep through and absorb into the ground below. This reduces runoff and helps prevent sewer system overloads. Time will tell if the flooding at multiple street corners in the area in recent years will no longer be a common sight in Boro Park after storms.
