Gowanus Canal Air Pollution Cleanup

By Y.M. Lowy
After worries from neighbors about air pollution from the Gowanus Canal cleanup, the EPA, aka the Environmental Protection Agency, rolled out a new tool to track air quality in the area.
The Trace Atmospheric Gas Analyze bus will monitor the air until the end of March, focusing on naphthalene, a chemical that comes from old coal waste being cleaned up at the site.
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection is also running tests to check indoor air quality in the area.
The EPA says it will share air quality results with local officials and residents and take action if pollution levels rise.
