Governor Overriding Hizzoner Shutting NYC Parks, Citing Dire COVID Numbers

While New Yorkers took in the ray of hope in recent days
that the “rate of doubling” of cases in the state was declining, the governor’s
daily briefing seemed to overshadow this.
As he has been doing since the beginning, the governor
announced new numbers at the Wednesday briefing, announcing “9,298 new
confirmed cases of COVID-19 in New York Tuesday, bringing the statewide total
to 75,795 (out of 220,880 people tested).”
This number of new cases is also a spike of 400 over the Tuesday,
than Tuesday’s cases were over Monday.
Of the 75,795 total cases, 12,226 were hospitalized, with
3,022 in the ICU—but 6,142 patients have already been discharged.
Given the growing threat, the governor announced that all
NYC parks & playgrounds will be closed, overriding NYC Mayor DeBlasio who
had said that they will remain open for exercise and playing as long as the
social distance is kept.
The Governor dug in on his previous projections in which he
clashed with the president: “The apex may be at end of April. Another month of
this,” the Governor said. NY will then need 110,000 hospital beds and 37,000
ventilators.”
To this end, the governor outlined the many steps that his administration is taking to ease the burden on NYC hospitals, so we can get through this terrible period in the best possible way under the circumstances.
