Governor Hochul Looks To Ban Smartphones In Schools

By Idy Perl
Everyone knows our phones are slowly rotting our brains, destroying our attention span, and causing a mental health crisis across the country. Although smartphones are detrimental to everyone, they’re especially damaging to young children whose brains are still developing.
In response to rising smartphone use in schools, Governor Hochul is reportedly considering legislation to ban smartphones in schools. As of now it is still unclear how such a ban would be put in place and enforced.
This effort is part of Hochul’s bigger plan against social media, the Stop Addictive Feeds Exploitation Act (SAFE), which would place restrictions on social media companies that use addictive features to harm young users.
The bill will be submitted later this year and voted on in next year’s legislative session.
