Gov. Cuomo Says No Changes Yet in Brooklyn’s Red Zones, Although Rates Dramatically Dropping
By Yehudit Garmaise
Although the COVID positivity rate in the red zones in Orange County dramatically dropped from 12% to 2% in the last three weeks, which switches those zones to yellow, no other changes, unfortunately, will yet be made in any other red zones in the state, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced today.
While the New York state’s positive testing rate now is down to 1.53%, the positive testing rate in the micro-clusters averages is at 3.65% but has been steadily dropping.
A report on Gov. Cuomo’s website says that while Brooklyn’s COVID positivity rate was 5.86% three weeks ago, two days ago Brooklyn’s rate was down to 3.59%, which is nearly dipping below 3% threshold at which the governor set for micro-clusters to exit the red zone and move to the orange or yellow zones, where restrictions are looser.
Public and private schools and non-essential businesses may open only in yellow zones, where houses of worship can return to 50% capacity, and essential gatherings can increase to 25 people maximum, both indoors and outdoors.
Rebbeim, askanim, and community leaders have asked Boro Park residents to please get tested to increase COVID-negative results and offset an inflated COVID-positive number in Boro Park, due to an inflated COVID-positive number that results from a lack of testing by healthy people.
