Gov. Cuomo Orders New Restrictions to Fend off Second Wave of COVID

Gov. Andrew Cuomo just announced that because New York is now seeing the highest COVID positivity rates since June, starting on Friday night, no one may host gatherings of more than 10 people in their homes. Also, all New York City bars and restaurants must close at 10pm, although take-out food may be picked up after that time.

Also, all the gyms in the city must close at 10pm.

“A cluster does not happen unless there is lack of compliance and lack of enforcement,” Gov. Cuomo said. “Where people don’t comply, the local government has to enforce. Otherwise, we have the spread of COVID.”

When we increase enforcement, the COVID positivity numbers come down, said the governor, who cited that Brooklyn’s numbers dropped from 7.7 to 5.5 as soon as restrictions were enforced.

In Brooklyn, Gov. Cuomo said that red zones will stay red, orange zones will turn yellow, and yellow zones will stay yellow.

“This a manageable problem, as long as New Yorkers comply with the restrictions,” said Gov. Cuomo. “New York is taking action to stop the spread in response to the rising COVID numbers.
