Flying Soon? Your ID Might Not Cut It

By Y.M. Lowy
Starting May 7, 2025, a standard driver’s license won’t be enough to board a domestic flight or enter certain federal buildings. Travelers will need a REAL ID which is a federally compliant driver’s license, permit, non-driver ID, or a valid passport to get through airport security.
In New York, check your license. If it doesn’t have a star or an American flag, it’s not REAL ID-compliant. Without the right ID, you could be turned away at the gate.
Avoid last-minute stress and visit the DMV to upgrade before your next trip.
