FDNY Urges New Yorkers Not To Block Fire Hydrants After Fatal Fire

By Idy Perl
Following a horrific fire tragedy in Brooklyn, the FDNY is begging New Yorkers everywhere not to block fire hydrants at any time, even just for a moment.
When firefighters respond to an active fire, every second is precious and can make the difference between life or death.
This call comes following a deadly fire early on Sunday, when the FDNY responded to an apartment engulfed in flames on 5th Avenue and 80th Street in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.
The firefighters were significantly delayed with their response as when they arrived at the scene there were vehicles blocking the two fire hydrants nearest to the burning building. Crucial moments were lost and resulted in one death and another two people getting injured in the fire.
