FDNY Responds To Record Breaking 229 Brush Fires In Two Weeks

By Idy Perl
As New Yorkers collectively hold their breath waiting for some rain, the FDNY announced that they have responded to 229 brush fires in the last two weeks: the highest recorded amount in NYC history.
“Remarkably dry conditions in October and so far in November have resulted in a historic amount of brush fires over the last two weeks and we need the public to remain vigilant,” FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker said.
The FDNY has started using drone technology that helps them track the ongoing fires in real time. The drones capture images that show the firefighters where the fires are located and how big they are so that the FDNY can be properly prepared with the necessary resources.
Governor Hochul has announced a statewide burn ban that prohibits any outdoor burning activities, and the red flag warning from yesterday is back in effect until 6pm tonight.
