FDNY Issues Electrical Safety Alert

By Y.M. Lowy
Over the past weekend, the FDNY responded to six multiple-alarm fires. Investigations determined that ALL the fires were caused by various electrical issues.
In response, the FDNY released a warning to New Yorkers to be extra careful with electricity. Plugging too many things into one outlet or using extension cords the wrong way can be dangerous.
Tips to help prevent electrical fires:
● Don’t overload outlets
● Don’t use extension cords as permanent wiring
● Watch for sparks or burning smells
● Keep cords away from rugs and furniture
● Check that smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working
Small steps can stop big problems.
