Fatal Shooting at Denver Yeshiva Throws Community into Terror

At around 11:30 pm Denver time (CST) last night (Tuesday) a bachur was shot while standing Outside Yeshiva Toras Chaim, located on Stuart Avenue on Denver’s West Side. 

The victim was transported to the hospital in serious condition, but soon was niftar from injuries. Early reports indicate that the victim was from out of town. 

The Yeshiva is a renowned institution, and was the first satellite Lakewood Yeshiva to be founded outside Lakewood, at the behest of its Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Shneur Kotler, zt”l. 

It was founded in 1967 by Roshei Yeshiva, Yisroel Meir Kagan, and Rav Yitzchok Wasserman, both students of Rav Aharon Kotler—bringing Torah to the Midwest. It has attracted many students from throughout the United States. 

At this time, the shooter remains on the loose, and is being hunted by Denver police. There is also an unconfirmed report of a second shooter. 

This horrific incident throws the community from great joy into shocking grief; as the Denver Community Kolel has just inaugurated a magnificent, brand-new building this past Sunday. The entire community participated in this event, and to have the week conclude on such a note is simply incomprehensible.

Update: Denver police release descriptions and details of three vehicles associated with the fatal shooting at the Denver Yeshiva

At least one of the vehicles was stolen from nearby Lakewood, Colorado. The suspects are considered armed and dangerous.  Denver police have offered a reward of $2000 for information leading to their arrests.
