Drones Join The NYPD

By Idy Perl
A few weeks ago, BoroPark24 reported on the use of drones during the recent severe weather, and yesterday during a press conference Mayor Adam expounded on the recent use of drones in NYPD capacity.
Adams showed a video of police using a drone to track home invaders as they fled the scene. The drones communicate with officers who are then able to find the perpetrators without a dangerous chase on the ground and are able to keep the criminals in their sights the entire time.
Adams mentioned the many people who make fun of drones and think that the police force shouldn’t be using them. “It saves lives,” Adams said. “And so the next time we want to mock one, think about if you're the victim of a home invasion and you're able to catch the perpetrators. Using good technology the right way and being open to learn to try something new can help solve complicated problems that we're facing in the city.”
