Driver Who Fled Scene After Leaving Injured Boy by Side of the Road Apprehended by Shomrim

by M.C. Millman

Tuesday morning, at approximately 8:30, a student was hit by a car on 52nd Street and Dahill Road while crossing the street to get to his bus for cheder.

The driver exited his car, went to the injured boy, moved him out of his way into the middle of Dahill Road, and fled the scene shortly thereafter.

The injured boy was released from the hospital after suffering from a broken femur, which required an operation of several hours.

Shomrim immediately began canvassing the neighborhood for cameras to get a clear picture of the vehicle and its license plate. They then notified their members of the make and model of the car and the license plate so they could be on the lookout for the hit-and-run driver.

Yesterday, two days after the incident, a member spotted a car with the right license plate in a parking lot. He alerted other members who arrived at the scene to provide backup and followed the driver until the NYPD arrived to make the arrest.
