DOT Urges Drivers to Avoid BQE Until Monday Morning

Brooklyn drivers should avoid the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE) and driving near downtown Brooklyn through early Monday morning.

“Necessary repair and replacement work” will cause many of the BQE’s closures that will start on Shabbos and continue through Monday, Oct. 16 at 4 a.m., reminded Ydanis Rodriguez, the commissioner of New York City’s Department of Transportation (DOT).

This weekend’s expected closures include locations between the Atlantic Avenue entrance ramp and the Manhattan Bridge exit ramp in the Queens-bound direction.

At the same time, partial lanes will be closed for Staten Island-bound drivers.

The DOT’s repairs on the BQE will provide new concrete and reinforcing steel bars for the expressway’s spans near Clark Street and Grace Court.

"The intense roadwork is critical to the lifespan of the BQE," said Rodriguez, who encouraged New Yorkers to choose public transportation to avoid an excess of congested traffic.
