Boro Park building owners have until Dec. 31 to get their gas piping professionally inspected, Ken Lazar, the liaison for intergovernmental and community affairs for New York City’s Department of Buildings (DOB) reminded participants at last night’s Community Board 12 monthly meeting.
“According to local law 152: it is your time,” Lazar said. “From Jan 1 to Dec 31 are the gas piping inspections. I suggest that people start doing them.
“Do not wait until the end of the year. It is human nature that for the people who wait until the end of the year: plumbers will start taking advantage and charging much more for the same service, according to many other residents.
“At the end of last year, people were paying a lot of money for the gas inspections that are required by law.”
“Owners of one- or two-family homes are exempt, but all other building owners need to have their gas piping inspected,” said Lazar who suggested that residents log onto nyc.gov/buildings.com to get further information.
