DMV Working Toward Stricter Penalties to Prevent Risky Driving

by Mindy Cohn
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is advocating for a series of proposals to enhance measures taken against risky driving behavior.
The proposals include increasing the penalty points associated with dangerous driving, lowering the threshold for disqualification of licenses for repeat offenders, applying stricter measures for drivers with multiple reckless driving convictions, and putting up roadblocks to prevent drivers with alcohol- or drug-related driving convictions from regaining driving privileges.
The new DMV proposals will be open for public comment for 60 days.
