Declutter Diaries: Cleaning Supply Storage

By Y.M. Lowy
Welcome back to Declutter Diaries. Cleaning supplies often end up scattered under the sink, in the laundry area, or tucked into random corners. When they’re not organized, it’s harder to keep things clean and know what you have. This week, we’re focusing on getting your cleaning products in order so they’re easy to find and ready to use. Because cleaning is enough of a job on its own.
Organize This:
Group your bathroom cleaners, kitchen sprays, laundry detergents, and other items in bins you can carry. This helps keep everything in its place and makes it easier to grab what you need. You can use stackable bins to neatly separate items.
Cleaning products can expire too, so take a moment to check if anything is old, dried out, or barely used. It’s time to toss expired items. You can store a set of labels to mark the purchase date for your supplies to stay organized and fresh.
Maximize cabinet space by installing hooks or racks on the inside of doors. These are perfect for hanging gloves, brushes, or dusters and will save valuable shelf space.
Set a specific spot for your cleaning products so everyone knows where they belong and where to put them back. Use a caddy or organizer to store everything in one spot and reduce clutter.
One Item Purge Challenge:
Are your old, worn-out rags taking up space in your cleaning supplies? Replace them with new microfiber cloths that are more effective, durable, and gentle on your surfaces.
Myth Buster:
Myth: You need a different cleaner for every surface.
Truth: Most surfaces can be cleaned with a good all-purpose cleaner. Having fewer products cuts clutter and simplifies your routine.
Did You Know?
Sometimes, cleaning supplies can be simple items you already have at home, and they can work even better than expensive products. A mixture of baking soda and water is great for scrubbing away stubborn stains on countertops or in your microwave. For sparkling faucets, rub a lemon wedge over them to remove water spots and grime. If you’ve got a sticky situation on your floor, try using a bit of vinegar mixed with water to lift the residue.
How Do You Do It?
How do you store cleaning supplies that you don’t use every day?
