Assemblyman Eichenstein to Governor Cuomo: thanks for opening beaches but what about our kids camps?
At New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s daily press conference addressing updates related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the question of whether summer camps would be allowed to re-open was asked by an Albany based reporter.
State Budget Director Robert Mujica said on the issue that, “we don’t have an answer yet on summer camps.” Budget Director Mujica emphasized that this was an issue that New York State Government leadership was looking at from a health perspective in light of the reports of Kawasaki-like symptoms in children suffering from the coronavirus.
At the same time however, New York Governor Cuomo has announced plans to open beaches across the state allowing families to get outside starting this Friday.
New York State Assemblyman Simcha Eichenstein recognized the contradiction and via a statement on Twitter said that he was working with camp directors and suggested guidance to the Governor’s staff that would make sure that all are safe. In Assemblyman Eichenstein’s words, “[New York Governor Cuomo] opened beaches for Memorial Day. What about giving children a safe and enjoyable summer in camps & bungalows?”
Assemblyman Eichenstein continued “#GiveKidsSummer.”
