Cuomo Reopens Fitness Classes, and Lifts 11pm Curfew for Many Businesses

  Just a few hours after receiving his own vaccine, Gov. Cuomo delivered the good news that while New York state has administered  7 million vaccines, and the state’s COVID positivity rate continues to drop.

   After getting his one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccination today at a pop-up vaccination site in Harlem, the governor reminded New Yorkers to “take whatever vaccine you can get.”

  Gov. Cuomo pointed out that to get their shots, New Yorkers have a variety of options, such as mass vaccination sites and pop-up vaccination centers.

    To add the good news of high vaccination rates and low COVID rates, Gov. Cuomo announced that this Mon., March 22, indoor fitness class will be reopening, primarily in New York City.

   “The were gyms were reopened, but indoor fitness classes were not,” said the governor, who added that “fitness classes will also be subject to protocols that have been in place all over the state: 33% capacity, signing in contact information, the scheduling of classes to allow for cleaning and disinfection, masked social distancing, shared equipment that is cleaned, and the local health department will  inspect.”

   Another element of spring reopening of New York state is that on April 5, the 11 pm curfew for casinos, movie theaters, bowling alleys, billiard halls, gyms, and fitness centers will be lifted, the governor announced. “The 11 pm curfew for food and beverage establishments and 12am curfew for catered events will remain in effect for the time being.”

   The governor explains that the state is currently evaluating the curfews for restaurants, bars, and catered events and that he will be made an announcement on them in April.
