Cuomo Lowers Age of Vaccine Eligibility to 60 Years Old and Adds Some Public-Facing Workers

New York lowered the age of vaccine eligibility to 60 years old, vaccine starting tomorrow, Gov. Cuomo said this morning in a press conference.

“Starting at 8am tomorrow, New Yorkers 60 years of age and older can now make appointments,” said the governor.

On March 17, New York all also allow vaccinations for “public-facing employees,” such as essential public workers, public-facing building workers, and some non-profit employees who provide public-facing services.

Although the city and state has struggled with low supply deliveries of the vaccine, the governor said that the supply is increasing, so that the state can “increase our distribution.”

Mayor Bill de Blasio has long complained that the governor has put too many restrictions on whom the vaccination centers can vaccinate and when, but today, Gov. Cuomo said that any vaccination center, except pharmacies can now vaccinate anyone who is eligible.

Pharmacies will only be only to vaccinate New Yorker over 60 years of age and teachers, whom President Joe Biden has prioritized.

Gov. Cuomo compared the COVID-19 pandemic to a war, and he said that no war is won by the enemy killing itself.

“This vaccine is the way to win the war,” the governor said. “No one is recommending vaccine unless they believe it saves lives and has proof it saves lives. We just have to take it, and make it happen.”
